utk is interested in exploring the idea of subtle interventions into the space and everyday activities of Bank Street. We will produce installations which take up the marginal spaces within the building – stairwells, corners, the gaps behind radiators and under chairs. The installations will be constructed out of the everyday small stuff that could be found in any domestic or work environment – ear buds, string, toy soldiers, paperclips, dusters. Bank Street is a fascinating and intricate space and is developing its identity as it grows into a vibrant environment for artists and crafts people to work in. utk intends to reflect on that process of defining a character, by building up a series of installations over a period of time. We want to play with a sense of creativity which lodges itself in corners and behind doors. utk enjoys making work which is guided by the nature of the environment in which it is built, and being spontaneous in our response to the site. We would hope to work in a close setting with the other artists on site and would expect this contact to influence the outcome of the residency. |
